Brief Summary:

The individual in this role acts as the direct contact between the customer and the organization to coordinate technical activities related to machines, tools, process, workholding, machine runoffs, sales, and training/demonstration for bevel gears. Having both bevel and cylindrical gearing expertise would be a desirable enhancement.  

 

Essential Functions:

Technical Responsibilities:

  • Analyzes, defines, documents, and reports customer runoff expectations, using Statistical Process Control as required, in a runoff synopsis to verify that machines purchased by customers meet their quality and production requirements. 
  • Determines production analyses for potential machine sales by predicting cycle times/duty cycles based on customer's production needs and prepares proposal.
  • Calculates gear designs and blade grinding, generates summaries and dimension sheets, and formulates machine summaries for development of machine programs.
  • Defines tool configuration for the required process and verifies new machine capabilities and processes by testing or analyzing.
  • Provides related technical assistance to customer regarding previous or future purchases, trouble shoots existing problems with machines and processes, and makes suitable recommendations for improvement or correction.  This is done in person, via fax, phone, e-mail, or other remote communication device.

This position requires the ability to build strong relationships with both internal and external customers:

  • Serves as a consultant and liaison between the sales organization and the customer for information on design, production, inspection, testing, and performance standards of Gleason products.
  • Performs promotional work by presenting new developments, machines, and processes.
  • Works closely with Sales, tooling engineers, shop personnel, contract managers, and the proposal group to meet or exceed customer needs.
  • Develops and conducts presentations and training courses covering gear process theory, summary development, machines, tools, process, workholding, machine runoffs, and sales.

 

 

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in engineering/technical discipline.  Required with knowledge of gear theory and manufacturing.  Knowledge /experience with Gear Process Technology is a plus.  Must have strong PC skills including MS Word, Excel, MS Project, PowerPoint, and SAP.  This position also requires demonstrated leadership qualities, exceptional problem solving, decision-making, and interpersonal communication skills in a team environment.
