Metallurgist

Brief Summary: Provide metallurgist advice for all of GWR.

 

Essential Functions:

1.  Lead all GWR efforts in solving material-related issues.

2.  To support and participate in new product and material development work and contribute to material/manufacturing process improvements.

3.  To organize & write technical reports.

4.  To make presentations on technical topics and the results of development & failure analysis work efforts as needed.

5.  Must be able to operate metallurgist testing equipment such as SEM/EDS OES hardness/micro hardness testers Metallographic image analysis system Instron etc.

6.  Support the Heat Treat Services department with metallurgy and heat treat process knowledge & lead key quality & process improvement projects.

7.  Provide metallurgical technology support as well as solve material related issues with all GWR departments including, Manufacturing, Engineering, R&D, SGS, Tooling & Arbor, etc. 

8.  Represent GWR to other Gleason plants, outside companies, and organizations on metallurgical issues.

9.  To work with client companies to understand, analyze, and find root cause on critical problems.

10. Lead efforts to identify, purchase and install heat treat process and testing equipment.

11. Impart metallurgical knowledge & process expertise to others with formal training & materials and with informal on the job training methods.

 

Requirements:

MBA or equivalent; four to ten years related experience or equivalent combination of education & experience in materials engineering/metallurgy.  Must be able to read, analyze and interpret common scientific/technical documentation.  Must have excellent communication, written and organizational skills.  Must be able to apply advanced mathematical concepts.  Must be able to work in a team environment and have the ability to interact effectively with client company representatives.  Must have an understanding of Lean and Six Sigma methods.
