-
Set the SLEEVE down so that the large bore diameter is facing up and the LIMIT SCREW
hole is facing you.
-
Note the etched numbers on the inside of the SLEEVE and on the TRUNNION of the JAWS.
It is critical that the jaws are returned to their proper slots: (jaw #1 goes in hole #1; jaw #2
in hole #2; jaw #3 in hole #3).
-
Give the bottom of the JAWS one last wipe and inspect for debris. Be sure not to touch the
bottom of the JAWS for the rest of the procedure.
-
Set the TRUNNION of each JAW in its matching hole in the sleeve.
-
Orient the ARBOR so that it is standing up on the DRIVING END with the LIMIT SLOT facing you.
-
Pick up the SLEEVE and JAW assembly and slide it onto the end of the ARBOR. Care must be
taken to ensure that the SLEEVE and JAWS line up with the SLOTS and that the JAWS are lined up with the TRUNNION HOLES in the SLEEVE.
-
Slide the SLEEVE half way down the ARBOR. Visually check one more time to see that no
debris lies between each JAW and its SLOT.
-
Pinch JAWS together so that they are riding flat in the SLOTs and TRUNNIONs stay put in the TRUNNION holes. Then install the SPRING CLIP(s). Note: for 3G, 4G or 7G springs, we use a
small metal dowel to nudge the spring into place. You should hear a snap when this is accomplished. For 1 & 2G circular coil springs, slide down over the small lip which then holds
spring in place. Spring joint should be clearly visible between any 2 jaws.
-
Slide the SLEEVE further down until the LIMIT SCREW hole is within the LIMIT SLOT on the ARBOR.
-
Tighten the LIMIT SCREW until snug in the LIMIT SLOT and then back it off 1/4 turn.
-
Now slide the SLEEVE back and forth to ensure that it is working properly. The JAWS should
stay in contact with the SLOTS and the SLEEVE should move smoothly. If this is not the case,
check the SPRINGS and LIMIT SCREW to make sure that they were replaced correctly.
