The Gleason TANLINE®‚ Pinion Chuck is a fast acting positive centering chuck with an extremely powerful gripping force, primarily designed for automotive rear axle drive pinions. Among the advantages are maximum speed and convenience of loading/unloading, the free movement of the pinion before chucking, positive centering of each part, and long wear life due to the compensating surfaces of the TANLINE®‚ collet.
How it works…
When the collet is pulled back/chucked, the forward end grips and centers the first bearing of the pinion. The bridge portion of the collet then deflects until the rear end has been drawn back to grip and center the second bearing. This assures maximum control of concentricity and, as a result, better control of tooth size.
Features
Improved Design:
A single double-grip collet replaces the two separate collets or the solid centering nose piece, single collet design of previous workholding equipment. The driver previously required for roughing pinions has been eliminated. Effective sealing is provided to protect the working parts of the tool against foreign matter.
Lower Cost:
The simplicity of design results in appreciable savings over previous workholding equipment, which has more working parts.
Longer Life:
Extensive production runs in industrial applications have shown a longer wear life than previous solid centering-type equipment. This is an especially important feature in lapping operations.
Easier Repair:
The single-piece TANLINE®‚ collet provides simple disassembly and maintenance. All parts of the assembled chuck can be easily removed from the front end of the chuck body, even while it is mounted in the machine spindle. The use of standardized, replaceable parts results in easier and more economical maintenance.
