The Gleason X-PANDISK®‚ Gear Arbor is a fast-acting, positive centering arbor, with an extremely powerful gripping/chucking force, primarily designed for automotive rear axle drive gears.
Its outstanding advantages include speed and convenience of loading/unloading, free movement of the gear blank on the de-chucked arbor, positive centering of each part, and longer wear life, due to the compensating locating surfaces of the X-PANDISK®‚ unit.
The way it works…
Its design lends itself ideally to automatic loading machines, for it can be supplied with a blank seating arrangement which prevents the machine from operating until the gear blank is mounted and properly seated. When the draw stem is pulled back (chucked), it compresses the single unit two-piece disk-type spring, causing it to expand radially into the gear blank bore. This operation both centers and grips the blank. The positive centering action assures maximum control of tooth size and concentricity.
Features
Improved Design:
A pair of circular, disk-type springs replaces the expanding collet or solid centering ring design of previous workholding equipment. Sealing is provided to protect the working parts of the tool against foreign matter.
Lower Cost:
The simplicity of design results in appreciable savings over previous workholding equipment, which has more working parts.
Longer Life:
Extensive production runs in industrial applications have shown a longer wear life than previous solid ring-type equipment. It's design includes an 0.008 inch wear allowance before repair is needed. This is an especially important feature in lapping operations.
Easier Repair:
The double disk-type springs provide for simple disassembly and maintenance. All parts of the completely assembled arbor can be easily removed from the front end of the arbor body, even while it is mounted in the machine spindle. Use of standardized, replaceable parts results in easier maintenance.
