The Wafer® concept has revolutionized gear tool design. Resharpening and recoating costs are often triple the initial cost of the tool. In addition, resharpenable tools have always been designed for compromise: doing the job within the confines of allowing resharpening.
Gleason Pfauter Hurth has developed a complete line of throw-away, non-resharpenable Wafer® shaper cutters and hobs. The Wafer® design offers the optimum in cutter engineering for superior tool performance. Since only the tooth geometry in one axial plane has to be considered, cutting clearance angles can be chosen for optimum performance and tool life. The opportunity to find the best operating pressure angle allows for a generous full cap radius, which helps distribute wear and increase cutter life.
